WSPTU Policy & Steering Committee Member With Great Ideas For Time Tables!

A vital member of the WSPTU* Steering Committee and also Policy Committee member, Paul Turner, normally brings up very good ideas about improving public transport.

In fact, we all can give good ideas of public transport as we think hard as what we would like to make each one of us feel better in comfort, timings and  making services better for both the user and the provider.

Paul's idea is simple and could be referred to the NSW for Transport decision makers and public transport stake holders. It could be even implemented, not now but maybe next time. Alright  so you are wondering what it is?

This is relation to buses and could relate to trains as well. His suggestion is for Transport for NSW to supply two time tables for buses. One that includes bus services for schools days and also one for  school holidays. In suggesting this, the idea is that there are buses used  to cater for special school buses, when the school holiday goes these bus can be re-diverted to  provide extra services to bus routes in that immediate locality. And this could be the same

So what do you think? Would this work for  you and other commuters?

If you do have improvement in public transport you would like to let us you can either leave a comment on the blog or contact us on:

It's Official, WSPTU 5th Transport Symposium Postponed Until 14th September 2013 - Make Yourself Available!

The WSPTU Steering Committee met tonight and unanimously agreed  to postpone the 5th WSPTU Transport Symposium  until the 14th September 2013.

It's funny, as the original date was set for 7th September 2013. This date was selected as it wasn't to clash with the early federal election previously called by the former Prime Minister M/s Gillard, which was 14th September 2013. Now the newly elected Prime Minister, Mr. Rudd, has called a week earlier the Australian Federal Election. WE had to change our dates to allow Jubilee Hall, Parramatta to be used for the elections. Such is life!

We have 3 guests speakers confirmed and hot topics of discussion are:
  • 'bus stop infrastructure and accessibility'
  • 'Community Access Advisory Committees' and how important they are to the entire public transport community.
  • 'improved use of roads for public transport - is this the future?'

We will also have a display of vintage bus timetables and historic photos.

More info will be available soon about topics, speakers and displays.

Register via the Western Sydney Public Transport Users facebook page, email wsbustop@gmail.com or leave a message at 9689 0114.

From Within WSPTU Face Book Group Member Joins As WSPTU New Policy Committee Member

If you had asked myself about 'Social Media' - I would have thought social media was something that never made sense and I am pretty sure was unheard of.  Shared Information in my days was by  reading books, magazines, newspapers and sometimes watching TV.

Within the last decade, this has changed and the technology that we  live in our modern world, changes the  meaning to 'chat' instead of talking to one or other by mouth or words, the Internet has opened  windows of opportunity through social media's: like e-mail, Twitter and Facebook Groups.

So I can say on behalf the the WSPTU, that from our Facebook Membership of 152, of current, we have  a new signed Individual membership that is  looking  for public transport improvements in Telopea commuters and residents. This proves that social media does work!

We encourage anyone that would like to join our Facebook Group Forum to search the following details once you join Facebook:
